UTPA employee becomes LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) accredited professional
Marianella Q. Franklin, construction special project coordinator in the Department of Facilities Planning and Construction at The University of Texas-Pan America, has recently become one of five LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) accredited professionals in the Rio Grande Valley.

Mechanical engineering chair Dr. Hashim Salman Mahdi dies suddenly
It is with great sadness that The University of Texas-Pan American announces the passing of Dr. Hashim Salman Mahdi, chair and professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Science and Engineering. He was 56 years old.

UTPA invention wins commercialization award from UT System
A team of researchers at The University of Texas-Pan American have invented a machine that will manufacture nanofibers more easily, safely and at a lower cost. To help facilitate the commercialization of the invention, The University of Texas System Board of Regents recently awarded the University a $50,000 grant from its Texas Ignition Fund to take the product from the lab to the public.

Cárdenas named Golden Eagle Award Recipient for 2009
The McAllen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is proud to announce that Dr. Blandina Cárdenas, president of The University of Texas-Pan American has been chosen as the Golden Eagle Award Recipient for 2009.

New emergency notification system implemented at UTPA
The University of Texas-Pan American recently implemented the Bronc Alert, a new emergency notification system, which enables campus authorities to notify the UTPA community, when an emergency on campus occurs via voice, text or e-mail.
